The Stories of Yoga, a retreat with Dr. Douglas R. Brooks

Let the spirit of Costa Rica replenish your soul and bathe in your own well-spring of inspiration. Rest your heart and mind amidst fragrant breezes and spectacular tropical views.

March 8-16th 2002 at Tierra De Milagros

This intimate retreat center is located on the southern tip of the Osa Peninsula settled amidst one of the richest wild life regions in all of Costa Rica. Amazingly beautiful and situated right on the turquoise ocean, the center has a close-to-the-earth style that makes you feel immediately at home. Your generous and fun-loving hosts, Nikki and Brad are incredibly hospitable and the food is healthy, colorful and vibrant. You'll be nourished by fresh tropical fruit picked right out of their gardens each morning, fish caught right off the beach and plenty of healthful, creatively prepared vegetarian meals.

Nikki and Brad's slice of paradise is teeming with wildlife. Just walking through the grounds you will see monkeys transversing the trees (during yoga class!), sloths lounging in the branches, large colorful iguanas, vibrant powder-blue butterflies, and rare Scarlet Macaw parrots flying in tandem over the jungle grounds.

Here's what your days will look like:

Each day will include a mind blowing lecture with Douglas. He will bedazzle us with his infinite knowledge of The Ramayana from the lens of a Rajanakin yogi. Douglas will tell the hidden meanings of the myths that are not found in any book, but are only passed on in oral tradition, just as The Ramayana was initially shared. At night, Douglas will continue the tale around the campfire and guide us into dreams of Rama, Sita, and Hanuman.

There will be an Eye of the Jaguar (instead of Tiger) Anusara Yoga classes led by either Amy Ippoliti, Mitchel Bleier, or Sianna Sherman. The class will be up-tempo, challenging, and of course fun as we become the very wildness of our surroundings. We will make the great leap, as Hanuman, to the Goddess within all of us.

Yoga facility: We will practice and listen to Douglas each day on the open-aired shaded yoga deck that overlooks the river. There is also a rancho in case of rain and a meditation platform down by the beach - perfect for watching the sunrise.
Accomodations: Picturesque two floor bungalows are double occupancy, open-aired with netted beds, each with its own outdoor shower and lounging hammock tucked into secluded greenery. Some single and triple occupancy bungalows are available. Last year's participants quickly grew to love the "outdoors" feeling of their bungalows and appreciated falling into the earth's circadian rhythms, but be prepared for a more rustic yet absolutely divine experience!
Ecotour options during your stay:
Sunset Dolphin Watching
Mangrove Estuary Kayak Trips
Rain forest hikes and tree climbing with our naturalist extraordinaire, Andy Pruter.
Snorkeling Adventures, beach walks & much more.

During breaks from yoga take a stroll through nearby tropical reserves, go tidepooling with a friend, hike up to the nearby waterfall for a refreshing dip, lounge on the beach, go on an ecotour, do a whole body mud mask with clay from the river bed down by the beach, bird watch, or take advantage of some of the best surfing in all of Costa Rica. Incredible surfing teacher, Mike, promises you'll get up on your first lesson! Massage onsite also available.
